Why photographs are important – Swagachi

I read an article on the discovery of new mummies in Egypt a few months ago. In addition to the brief news, there were computerised portraits of how the mummies must have looked when they were alive. It seriously blew my mind! The technology is undoubtedly one of the best inventions by the mankind indeed! The news article really triggered me look up for my parents’ wedding album and it has been so long since I last saw it. And I have no idea why the thought suddenly appeared in my head. Crazy, I know right?
I got ahold of their wedding album which was about 50 years old! All the photos were completely worn out and I could hardly spot any good ones! Later, I decided to digitally restore the damaged ones and give them back to my parents as Valentine’s day gift! One thing that really made me do this was the fact that we are excited to see the pictures of Egyptian mummies. Imagine the excitement our future generation would have on seeing the photographs of our ancestors! It is certainly immeasurable.
Why we should NOT delete/discard photographs
I’m pretty sure there are many of us who would delete/discard our photos clicked with friends, siblings and relatives over a little tiff. Usually, we get back with our loved ones in a couple of days, months, or even years! But I bet there is no way to collect the lost photos that carried a tonne of memories! What’s done is done. Our poor brains would be the only hubs of our memories for the rest of our lives now.
Sometimes, we think we don’t look great in a few photographs clicked during a field trip. We go ahead and delete them without a second thought. It is even worse than a crime! If we look at those not-so-great photos after 10 years from now, chances are high that we may actually LOVE how we looked back then. And even if we don’t love, we may laugh about it with our friends! So, let us not ditch them yet!
Why photographs are useful
We don’t just explain our amazing trip to friends and family, we also present them with a mini Powerpoint Presentation on our photographs. Just kidding! But on a serious note, it gives them a clearer picture of what all we did in the vacation. It is like a low-key travel experience for them at no expense!
In short, photographs are like buried treasures. Be it old or new, we must store them with the utmost care. If there are any tainted photos of our ancestors, we can digitally restore them as well. Let us not waste any further time and click those photos with our loved ones. In addition to that, let us not forget to live the present moment as well.
