How many Jayashrees until justice is served?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The news that made us shed tears and doubt our faith on humanity AGAIN. When are we going to stop hearing news on violence against women and children? It is highly disgusting that the culprits get away with minimal punishment and not be talked about ever again in future! By the time the justice is served, they’re soon forgotten by the media, people and are bailed out in no time. Another news pops up and the same routine happens over and over again.

Jayashree was just a 14 year old 10th standard student who wanted to pursue her career in nursing. Before she could even start dreaming about her future endeavours, she was burnt to death. She was tied up with rope, bathed in petrol and set fire. It can’t get any crueler than this. There is a video on internet that captures her final moments and statement against the criminals. Her cries for a sip of water is just heartbreaking.

Jayashree is no more. WHY? It was because her father had a dispute with two powerfully positioned men in the neighbourhood. Was it Jayashree’s fault that her family is poor and powerless?

Every time we only share the victims’ identities and forget the culprits. Let us circulate their pictures for a change so when they are on the loose, we can do what our law failed to do.

It is high time for the government to provide immediate justice for every victim’s family. To be precise, like the criminals who were encountered by the Hyderabad cops for rape and murder of a vet doctor. Maybe, it was because the criminals were not politically powerful and just, below poverty line truck drivers? This is how our system is all about now, it is biased! The government must serve the same kind of punishment for every bloody culprit, no matter what.
