Quarantine – A real life thriller

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Flashback

“The world is going to end.” on hearing about a natural calamity in a faraway land.

“WW3 is here!” on watching Kim Jong-un’s documentaries on YouTube.

Fast forward to today

Empty streets, armed forces in jeep, silence everywhere except for the crows cawing, scientists and medical professionals fully dressed up in protection suits at labs and hospitals, constant distress and emergency calls, radios warning people to stay alert. Everything seems like a movie scene from the sets of “Resident Evil”  and “A Quiet Place”.

Can you imagine a life like this FOREVER?

A fear of breathing in fresh air and getting infected with a disease. A life without an easy access to people, food and places. The reports, surveys, and breaking news from the news channels talk about the increasing death rate. Everybody’s skating on thin ice now! Kids who belong to the next generation may grow up thinking social distancing is a solution for EVERYTHING. Elderly people may worry about getting too lonely.

A real life thriller directed and produced by *ahem ahem* (you know who!).

Who is going to save the world from this deadly thing? It is not Arnold Schwarzenegger with rifle guns. It is going to be us.. people. We as a team will have to fight this once and for all. It is not going to be bloody or action packed. It is even harder than that! We will have to come together and just… sit at home. Yes, it is as simple as that! It is fun and easy in the initial days. There is a high chance for depression and overthinking to take over our isolation period gradually.

On the contrary

As much as we want this to be a bad dream, there are people who have been quarantining themselves even before all this chaos. It could be due to health issues, depression, family priority or whatsoever. It takes a lot of hurt, mental strength and courage! Life is unpredictable and time is ruthless. Don’t take people, relationships, and food for granted.

The outside drama and negativity is no longer a big deal. The wildlife and marine life will be free of air and water pollution for sometime now. Also, Instagram stories discover a lot of new talents like painters, chefs, musicians everyday. Goodbye to hatred and unnecessary shading (temporarily?)! 1000 years from now, there is going to be a holy book that explains what we did to overcome this massive pandemic. How cool is that?

And oh yeah, the plot is yet to be finalised.

Each one of us is the writer of this real life thriller. Let’s be more responsible and follow the instructions. Happy quarantining and stay safe! 🙂
